I woke up in the middle of the night (actually more into twilight - hot like hell, as if my body was burning. So, I simply couldn't sleep any longer (after 5 hours sleep).
Oh well.
Holding off on these lenses
So, the dirt cheap Pentax 645 FA 200 mm ƒ 4 (IF) lens - seems to be a pretty sharp, especially stopped down. OK. Fine. However, the background blur was not to my liking - at all. Unsettled (dependent on how far away or close your background is, the character changes). At certain distances, this lens showed strange "double contours / outlines" of blurry objects in the background - which gave an image an unsettled character.
I think the lens is attractive because of the extreme low price on the second hand market. (100 €) What I didn't like so much was the unsettled background bokeh.
Instead
the far more expensive Pentax 645 FA 150 mm ƒ2.8 lens was way more pleasant when it comes to background character. Howver, the 2nd second hand prices are too high for my liking; ending up around 8200 SEK / 755 € when import, shipping and 25% tax are paid.
No thanks.
Facit
i will NOT eye or buy any of those two lenses. Instead, i will simply use my existing, manual version; the Pentax 645 A 150mm ƒ3.5 lens. A much better "deal. Boy i have forgotten how TINY that lens actually is. It is petite... unbelieveable. I mean when you are used to BIG Fujinon GF lenses... then you understand what I mean.
Pentax 645 A 150/3.5 lens
I will test the handling of that manual lens i already own, and see how handling, character and sharpness turn out in real life, and by using it more often in order to get a hang of the lens handling & chracter.
When I do "telephoto" with the Fujifilm GFX camera, then it will primarily be with the native Fujinon GF 110/2 lens. There ain't no better, after all.
I think, that I now have cleared out the idea of buying more Pentax 645 lenses. Taking away saved eBay ads of any 150mm and 200mm lenses.
I totally forgot...
I actually never bought a direct (one piece) Pentax 645 to GFX adapter. Those I thought were unreasonably high priced... Therefore, I went an indirect route via a second (dumb) adapter; going from Pentax 645 > to Canon EF mount, being mounted on my existing Finger adapter; from EF to GFX.
• Pentax 645 lens mount -> EOS EF lens mount -> Fujifilm GFX camera.
Yeah, I totally forgot that i don't have a real, one-piece adapter *LOL* My thinking back then was, to use Pentax 645 lenses in the studio. Not really aiming at outdoor photography. So, the dumb adapter i had bought, was way better priced and simple.
Fringer AF P645-GFX adapter
Now things have changed, since Fringer came out with the unique AF supporting Pentax 645-GFX adapter. Which I recently ordered. It will be a ONE PIECE adapter of very high quality.
I think it enables Image stabilization right away in the GFX camera when you look through the viewfinder. Or so, I hope it does. Because my current double adapters, don't seem to do that... Which makes manual focus iffy at best, the longer the lens ! That's also were I lost interest last year, when i realized that long Pentax 645 lenses that way, were only good for tripod photography. --- Not handheld.
At the same time, the longer the zoom lenses were, the more unbalanced the whole combination turned out to be. Without any lens-foot tripod mount - every lens would "hang" onto the camera when mounted on a tripod. Let's not even mention the akwardness, when having to TILT camera and loooong lens to the side by 90 degrees.
HURRK !
This now all changes
with the new adapter + a special 84mm lens-foot adapter.
The new Fringer P645-GFX adapter is made in such a way, that it gives finally gives enough space to mount a 84 mm Ø lens-foot adapter to it. Therefore shifting the point of gravity, giving better overall balance with long lenses. Lenses no more "hang" on the camera.
Additionally - very important for tripod photography: The lens-foot gives the ability to rotate the lens+camera between horizontal and vertical photography - without leaving the tripod. No need to tilt the camera+lens by 90° to the side.
What a great help !
Absolutely wonderful !!! |
