The Olympus (OM System) M.Zuiko ED 300 mm ƒ4 IS PRO - in essence a 600 mm ƒ 4 lens - is truly fascinating. When the focus is exactly on the spot where it is supposed to be - the sharpness is simply stunning. In other words; top notch !
But since it is a Micro Four Thirds lens - it is easy to handle (compared to a fullframe 600 mm ƒ4 super telephoto lens - which is pretty heavy, and much larger).
So, in my world, i love this lens. One of the wonderful things with it - is a the narrow minimum focus - allowing to take images of closer things - not really that far away.
Berlin Zoo • 2019
At the Berlin Zoo in 2019 - Europe's largest Zoo - here the Olympus 300/4 IS PRO was my most used lens - Absolutely stunning to work with.
The animal portraits looked gorgeous through this lens. I mean normally you don't associate a super telephoto lens with that you can go pretty close ! But with the Olympus ED 300/4 IS PRO - you can. I believe the min focus is a mere 1.4 meters.
Which is close for a 600mm focal length !
The price for this lens has risen moderately since 2019. I think i bought it for something like 22.000 SEK [2019], but now it is around 27.000 SEK [2026] albeit the recommended price at OM System is stated being as high as 34.800 SEK. [ 3150 € ]
If that is the new price, then it is a steep development over the course of 7 years: a price increase of 58% !
*puh*
It is kind of ironic.
I bought most of my Olympus lenses via a pay off plan between 1-3 years over the years, with moderate interest rates (11-15%) But when i look at the development of prices these days... Then i can't really claim to have paid 58% more in total. |
